The Final Program for the 2009 Joint Conference of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation and The 11th Billings Land Reclamation Symposium, May 30 – June 5, 2009 Billings, Montana, USA.

The combined conference of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation and Billings Land Reclamation Symposium is scheduled for the week of May 30 - June 5, 2009 in Billings, Montana. It will be held at the Billings Crowne Plaza Hotel (1-888-444-0401). The combined conference will provide a forum for the dissemination of information and discussions that may lead to change and innovations in public policy, mining, reclamation, and land management issues through research, field tours and workshops.

TECHNICAL SESSIONS: Results of approximately 96 research/demonstration studies relating solutions and approaches implemented during the management of mined lands will be presented in during technical sessions on Revegetation, Evaluating Revegetation Success, Water Management, Mine Influenced Water, Soils and Overburden, Technological Tools, Activities of the Wyoming Reclamation & Restoration Center, Case Studies and Industrial Innovation. The technical sessions and papers included in each session can be reviewed by clicking on the Technical Session button. In addition there will be 36 posters available for viewing throughout the joint conference.

WORKSHOPS: There will be five workshops given on the two days prior to the start of the Joint Conference:
  • Soil Management for Site Reclamation
  • Remote Sensing
  • Test & Treat: Mine Influenced Waters Trials and Tribulations.

FIELD TOURS: There are three pre-conference tours and two post-conference tours planned.
The pre-conference tours include:
  • Wetland Mitigation near Laurel and Roundup, Montana
  • Coal Mine and Coalbed Methane Development and Reclamation – Powder River Basin in Montana and Wyoming
The post-conference tours include:
  • Pryor Mountains (Montana) Environmental Disturbances, Rehabilitation, and Recovery
  • Historic Hard Rock Mine Sites and an Active Gold Mine in Western Montana
